Mad og Hygge is a an establishment in Seoul, South Korea, that is owned by a Dane, AK Salling. She was born and raised in Denmark, but decided to move to South Korea to build a life there. Since she enjoys cooking and baking, she decided to set up a place where people can make food and eat together, and hence, spread the Danish concept of “mad” (food”) and “cosiness” (hygge).

ABOUT THIS PROJECT:

I was contacted by AK to help her design a washing label (50cm x 50cm) for Mad og Hygge that would be sewed onto merchandise such as aprons and oven mittens. Here is the final result of this project.

One of the challenges working on this project was that the print was not going to be very big, so details would be lost if they are too small, as would any small text. It is for this reason that the mermaid’s heart-shaped mouth was made bigger than how it was on the original logo. Also, the printer was only able to print one colour at once, so that meant the mermaid had a blue heart-shaped mouth instead of her luscious red one.
